Day 1: Arrival in Kigali & Cultural City Tour
Welcome to the Land of a Thousand Hills.
- Arrival: Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our guide.
- City Tour: Begin your journey with a guided tour of Kigali. Visit the moving Kigali Genocide Memorial, explore local art galleries, and experience Rwanda’s mix of history and modern life.
- Overnight: Transfer to your lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park – Afternoon Game Drive
Rwanda’s Big Five Territory.
- Morning: After breakfast, depart for Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah reserve.
- Arrival: Check in at your lodge inside or near the park.
- Afternoon Safari: Enjoy your first game drive in search of elephants, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and more.
- Overnight: Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge in Akagera.
Day 3: Morning Game Drive & Boat Safari on Lake Ihema
Plains and Waterways.
- Morning Safari: Start the day with a game drive through Akagera’s open plains and woodland savannahs.
- Afternoon Activity: In the afternoon, enjoy a boat safari on Lake Ihema. This is a fantastic opportunity to spot hippos, crocodiles, and a huge variety of bird species.
- Overnight: Dinner and overnight stay at the same lodge in Akagera.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Journey to the Virunga Mountains.
- The Drive: After breakfast, drive northwest through Rwanda’s stunning rolling hills toward Volcanoes National Park.
- Lunch: Stop for lunch en route.
- Arrival: Arrive at your lodge in Musanze by evening, with spectacular views of the Virunga Mountains.
- Overnight: Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge near Volcanoes National Park.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
The Ultimate Wildlife Encounter.
- Briefing: A highlight of your safari! After a morning briefing, set off into the rainforest with an expert tracker.
- The Trek: Hike to find one of the habituated gorilla families.
- The Experience: Spend a magical hour observing these gentle giants in their natural habitat.
- Relaxation: Return to the lodge for a well-earned rest.
- Overnight: Dinner and overnight stay at the same lodge in Musanze.
Day 6: Lake Kivu Visit & Departure from Kigali
Lakeside Relaxation.
- Morning: After breakfast, visit nearby Lake Kivu, one of Africa’s Great Lakes. Enjoy a short lakeside break or an optional boat ride.
- Return to Kigali: Later, transfer back to Kigali. If time allows, stop for souvenir shopping or a local coffee tasting.
- Departure: You will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight.
